Amazon.com Product Description
Every home lawn enthusiast needs a reliable trimmer. When it comes to performance in the front or back yard, the Grass Hog 14-inch automatic feed string trimmer and edger provides what you need. This tool is powered by a 4.8 Amp electric motor that spins the line at 9,500 rpm and gives you a 14-inch cutting swath. An Automatic Feed Spool (AFS) system eliminates the need to bump the trimmer against the ground every time the line breaks. And the 30-foot, factory-wound spool is easy to install and replace. Head adjustment is quick and easy, too, when the Groom'N'Edge head rotates 180 degrees; just press the button, rotate the handle and wait for it to lock in place. The patented cord retention system helps prevent accidental unplugging while in use. This trimmer comes equipped with an auxiliary handle for added comfort and control. The handle rotates a full 360 degrees and the soft grip can be moved up and down to ensure the perfect fit, whatever size the operator may be. A flip-down edge guide ensures precise trimming and edging work. At just 5.2 pounds, this product is easy for just about anyone to use. This product is backed by a 2-year full warranty. --Carl Thress

Amazon.com Product Description
A broad 14-inch cutting swath and a powerful five Amp electric motor help the Black & Decker Grass Hog GH600 Electric String Trimmer and Edger make edging, trimming, and weed eating easy tasks to handle. It features a Groom'N'Edge head that can be rotated 180-degrees for quick switches between cutting and edging tasks along with Black & Decker's Automatic Feed Spool (AFS) system, which uses centrifugal force to dispense more line whenever you need it for added predictability and dependability--no bumping required. Also offering the simplicity of electric startups and weighing in at just 5.2 pounds, it's a machine that is incredibly easy to handle, and you won't have to contend with the strain that repeated pull starts and heavier tools can put on your body. Other convenient design elements include a flip-down edge guide, four-position height adjustment, and an adjustable auxiliary handle for a customizable experience and improved comfort. Corded power means work is never brought to a standstill by a dead battery or an empty gas tank, and a patented cord-lock system prevents accidental extension cord disconnections while you work. This tool is backed by a limited 2-year warranty.

5 out of 5 stars Just Add A Grass Gator to Your Grass Hog-Perfect!   April 18, 2006

I just purchased one of these and it is almost perfect. I had a small string one and as stated in the other reviews, they use a lot of string and it is a pain replacing the spool and the string ones never cut like the gas ones. We all know the problems with the gas ones, but boy can they knock down the weeds. Well I was at Home Depot and spotted the perfect solution. This Grass Hog and the Grass Gator Electric Multi-Fit. No more string and with the power of the Black and Decker, I'm in Hog Heaven.(You knew that was coming.) The Grass Gator goes on easy and has a tough nylon blade, but it cuts like a metal blade, the kind you find only on gas powered trimmers. I managed to wack our fence a couple of times with the blades and they both survived the impact and the fence was fine. The replacement blades are easy to install and not very expensive. This is electric weed-wacking at its best. Perfect-Catherine

5 out of 5 stars I would definitely recommend this   May 26, 2004

I have a small lot (8500 sq. ft.) and the rear portion had a fair amount of tall grass growing in a non-landscaped area. This thing chopped that stuff down no problem. I had a McCullough gas trimmer that couldn't take that stuff down.

I haven't had it long enough to comment on the line use issues, but i think for ~$50 this is a great value. It does a lot better edging my bermuda lawn than the dedicated Craftsman edger that I had (used a blade).

So basically this outperforms 2 units that had a combined cost of around $200 for me. So far I am thrilled with it. Don't worry about it not having the power to do basic trimming. This has converted me to electric trimmers for the foreseeable future.

5 out of 5 stars Two Years and Still Going Strong   March 24, 2007

My husband always kept the lawn and garden tools in running order, and when he passed away two years ago I purchased this because it's light and it's electric, so that I don't have to fool with maintenance, gas/oil mixtures, etc. It was under $50, and I've given it an incredibly hard workout on my wooded lot of more than three acres (with the help of extremely long extension cords). I've plowed through dense weeds over two feet tall, edged with it, and tipped it up to grind those thick, prickly-leafed weeds down to the roots. We're both dusty and covered with clippings by the end, but it's still going strong, and that makes it well worth the economical price to me. When it finally goes, I'd happily buy another just like it.

The Grass Hog was everything I expected. I never had to feed the line and it took care of all my trimming to include some very tall weeds. The ergomonic design was notable as my previous weedeater was very hard on the wrists and back. This did not cause any discomfort in either of times I have used it since purchasing. I have not used the edger as I have a separate edger for that. Very well designed and works great - what else can you ask for?

5 out of 5 stars Great Tool for its Niche   August 5, 2005

I'm a middle aged female who purchased this trimmer because I maintain our lawn most of the year by myself (in Florida...long growing season) and I had problems starting the big gas trimmer. This was the answer for me...lightweight, easy to start, maneuverable. I have a 1/2 acre and after my first use I was not tired and I found that the extension cord is not difficult to manage. It remains to be seen if I'll have the spool and string problems mentioned by others, but for under $50.00 (new) this one has my vote!
